The Jellyfish Crossroads

24 March – 11 April 2010

Opening preview: Wednesday 24 March 5.30 – 7.30pm

Exhibition Statement:

The Jellyfish Crossroads is a collection of works loosely exploring interesting animals, characters, and pattern. The watercolour medium combined with sketchy linework and spraypainted stencils allows a surreal, dreamlike feeling to be conveyed. The viewer is left to ponder what subtle metaphorical value may or may not lie within these beautiful and/or unusual images.

Artist Statement:

Rachel Walker was born in 1985, atop the hill of Napier. She graduated from Massey University Wellington with a Bachelor of Design, Illustration major, in 2008. Her works are often inspired by nature, humour, oddity and confusion; and usually depicted in watercolour, spraypaint, ink, and pencil (mixed media). Rachel has exhibited in various group shows including ‘Animalia’ and ‘Nature, it Walks’ at Pixel Ink Gallery. The Jellyfish Crossroads is her first solo exhibition.  Aside from personal painting, Rachel works as a freelance designer and on private commissions in Wellington, New Zealand.
